Cherrywood Garden of Life

Cherrywood Nursing & Living Center announced that they will continue their proud sponsorship of the “Cherrywood Garden of Life” at the Clinton Township Senior Adult Life Center. Over 30 seniors are involved in planting and growing vegetables that will supply nutritious fresh vegetables for themselves and the surplus will be distributed to food banks that assist seniors in the local communities. The garden not only supplies fresh vegetables, but provides seniors with physical activity, socialization and lots of fun. Many seniors no longer have a back yard in which they can garden, so this will provide the opportunity to garden again. Garden club President Jim Eckert has provided passionate leadership that, combined with the entire garden club’s hard work, will ensure a successful harvest.

Cherrywood made a $1,000.00 donation, and purchased two above-ground gardens in addition to supplying tools, hats, and other supplies for the seniors. The garden is senior–accessible and the best part is that the overflow of vegetables will be going to and helping seniors in need.

“It is seniors helping seniors,” said Garden of Life Program Coordinator Debbie Travis, “all of our club members are incredible givers.” While Cherrywood is the biggest sponsor, volunteers have donated their time, and donations have come from other places as this garden project grows. Both the Clinton Township Senior Adult Life Center and Cherrywood are committed to this project growing larger year-to-year.  Cherrywood is celebrating their sponsorship renewal with a brunch at the Clinton Township Senior Adult Life Center on Wednesday, January 6th at 10:00 am!
